Kristjon Imperio
Director of Worship & Development/Organist
In the way that Kristjon Imperio plays the doxology – “Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow” – the Sunday worship listener gets a sense of the muscular depth and spiritual passion the Village Church organist and pianist brings to music. His gift could be equal parts nature and nurture: his father is a concert pianist and his mother was a vocalist, and he also spent Saturdays and Sundays engaged in church music. What is apparent is his dedication to faithful musical expression.
Since youth, Kristjon has cultivated a deep appreciation for classical music, traditional hymns, and spirituals. The pieces of music he holds “most dear” reflect his fondness towards works inspired by Scripture and prayers: Johannes Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem, Samuel Barber’s Prayers of Kierkegaard, and Herbert Howells’ Hymnus Paradisi.
Beyond the sanctuary, Kristjon is an active recitalist and collaborative musician; and has performed major concertos of Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Grieg, Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, and Brahms with orchestras throughout the United States. He has over two decades of experience in arts administration, most recently serving as interim executive director at Pakachoag Music School of Greater Worcester.
Kristjon earned his bachelor’s degree in music education from Atlantic Union College, receiving piano instruction from his father, Roy Imperio, and studying organ with William Ness. A resident of Holden, Kristjon treasures spending time with family, training and athletics, gardening and landscaping, and keeping up with his favorite sports teams.
